st. augustine

For a quick, weekend trip to get away from the January NYC cold, Ben and I went down to Florida. He had a work conference in Jacksonville, so I decided to meet him there. Our plan was to make the 2.5-hour drive to Orlando for Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure, since I had never been there before. On a last minute recommendation from his brother, we stopped by an old town, St. Augustine, since it was kind of on the way.

I had never even heard of this town before but I was pretty impressed with what we found there. There was an old masonry fort, which is the oldest in the continental U.S. (the oldest is in San Juan), a light house, and lots of little shops. You could easily spend an entire day there.
