the third largest fish market in the world

Sure, it’s no Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, but it’s still pretty impressive. There are so many options to choose from. Raw or cooked? Western rock lobster or Tasmanian lobster? Blue swimmer crabs or mud crabs? Balmain bugs or Moreton Bay bugs? I could go on but I think you get the picture.

Every type of seafood you’ve ever dreamt of in your wildest dreams (or maybe I’m the only one who dreams about seafood since I’m allergic to most of it, but will eat it anyway in real life), they probably have it here! You can eat to your heart’s content. The Sydney Fish Market world is your oyster! (yep, they’ve got those too!)

The market is open everyday (except for Christmas Day) from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. (and 5 p.m. on Fridays-Saturdays). Wholesale auctions start at 5:30 a.m., which you can watch, but you would need to buy tickets here. The SFM is close to the city centre but it is off to the side a little bit. It’s probably about a 10 minute walk from Darling Harbour/Cockle Bay.

Even if seafood isn’t really your thing, it’s still worth checking out. You’ll see a lot varieties of sea creatures that can only be found on this side of the world. Plus, they have shops selling fresh produce, bread, and wine. There’s something for everyone! Now that I’ve sufficiently managed to sound like I work for the marketing/PR department of the SFM, I’ll leave you with this photo and video of the best thing I ate there. BRB while I go and wipe the drool off of my keyboard.
