my very first post

The last time I really blogged about anything was back in high school.

Recently, one of my good friends showed me this travel blog. It really inspired me to start my own travel blog too. Granted, I haven’t traveled to that many places, but what else could I start a blog about? My job at Time, Inc.? Nope – no one wants to hear about that. Food? No – that’s what my Yelp page is for! Fashion? Probably not – I don’t think I’m in any position to be giving anyone fashion advice.

So that’s when I settled on a travel blog.

Remember Xanga? You know – back when aol.com always followed whatever weird screen name, that didn’t make sense that you had? (mine was sapphiresky88…and don’t ask me why because I won’t know the answer to that question) Well, I got to read a couple of posts that my 16-year-old self wrote. And it was weird. I mean, I didn’t write anything outside the norm of what a typical self-involved teenaged girl would write, but it was still strange. To think that my past self from almost 10 years ago had her own thoughts, opinions, and dreams, without any worries almost made me envy her a tiny bit. But then I remembered that I have a job now and can (semi) afford to buy things, so I came to the conclusion that she should be the one envying me!

But now that I’m older (and none the wiser, ha!) I feel like I would be able to get my thoughts across in a more meaningful way – which is another reason I decided to start this blog. I do miss my ‘Dear Diary’ days, where I would actually write in a notebook. But I definitely don’t miss the days of hiding the key so well that i would lose it! So maybe a blog about my travels is the best way to go – in order to keep up with the technological age.

Sure, I can take pictures – which I do. In fact, I take thousands. But to be fair, not all of them are meaningful. And now this is where this blog steps in. 30, 40, 50 years down the line – you can look at the pictures you took. You’ll remember how beautiful these places were, but will you remember how it made you feel? Chances are that you won’t. You’re not going to remember why you took a picture of that random building deep in the town of Killarney in Ireland. Or why you took a picture of that random lone palm tree in Kailua in Hawaii. Yes, “A picture is worth a thousand words” blah blah blah. But a blog is worth a thousand and one. (and yes, I just made that up right now – which is why it was so corny)

In short, if you’re intrigued, read on.

If not, hit CMD Q because I don’t need to add anymore negative energy to my life.

But to add one last thing to that negativity note, I do have something I regret – that I didn’t start this blog sooner.

To compensate, you can check out my Yelp reviews in the following places:

Hawaii

Ireland

New Orleans

My next adventure will be to Italy in September 2014. I’ll be heading to Milan, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Rome, and Venice.

Happy reading! 🙂
